100th Blog Post: Žižek and The Wire

As WordPress helpfully informs me, this newest entry also happens to be my 100th blog post. And what more appropriate way to take note of this than to combine a link to Slavoj Žižek’s recent lecture on “The Wire or the Clash of Civilizations in One Country” with a repeat performance of that great video containing one hundred great lines of dialogue from the show? As the eminent Slovenian theorist notes, he’s rather late to the party, but since The Wire deserves to remain a part of our conversation more than any other TV series in recent memory, it is well worth taking the time to listen to – especially because the heavily-accented philosopher makes some great points about it that I haven’t heard anywhere else yet. And as usual, he is great fun to listen to. Like the picture says: “Listen carefully.”
