Awesome first trailer: Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol

I’ve always thought the much-maligned third installment in Tom Cruise’s ongoing Mission: Impossible was actually the best one yet. Sure, it suffered from some of the same foibles that would plague JJ Abrams’ subsequent (and far more successful) films as a director. But the film was released just as Cruise seemed to be publicly self-destructing on national television, prompting a huge backlash of which M:I3 came to bear the brunt. Given that film’s fair-to-middling box office performance, it seemed unlikely that the film series would continue following the Ethan Hunt character into middle age (and, judging by the third film’s ending, domestic bliss).

So it was a surprise when the announcement came that the fourth film in the installment was actually going to happen: scheduled for a December 2011 release, the film would be titled Mission Impossible – Ghost Protocol, and -best of all- it would be directed by Brad Bird, the animation genius who directed The Iron Giant, The Incredibles, and Ratatouille. Today, the film’s highly anticipated trailer has arrived, and I must say, it simply looks like it’s going to be all kinds of awesome. Judge for yourself, but this is one Hollywood action movie I’m actually looking forward to…

Looks good. Could do without the Eminem/Pink combo though. Or Tom Cruise for that matter…
